Transporter adaptor protein PDZK1 can regulate the localization, expression and function of drug transporters by directly interacting with PDZ-binding motif. Drug transporters mediating the membrane transport of many kinds of endogenous and exogenous compounds, have been demonstrated as a key role in multiple drug resistance, several diseases and drug disposition. Thus, PDZK1 can also influence these mechanisms indirectly by interaction with drug transporters. In this article, the recent progress of research on regulation of drug transporters by PDZK1 is reviewed.
